To use professional walkie-talkies, you will need some sort of licence from Ofcom.

General Licence

The "UK General Licence" entitles you to use "licensable" walkie-talkies anywhere in the UK, provided that they are set to the UK General Frequencies. You do not have exclusive use of a particular channel. This costs £60 and lasts for three years.

Site Licence

This is where you apply for a licence for one or more channels for the exclusive use of your organisation in a specific area. The cost of this depends on the area covered, and how many radios you want to have.
